Appliances that need water for their operation, such as washers and ice makers carry with them an added risk. While there are many sources for flooding in your home, improperly installed appliances or poor workmanship can turn an appliance from a helper to a destroyer of your home.
One of the worst offenders is your washing machine, mostly because it often is in a location that is out of sight, and the water supply hose could burst at any time if it has been weakened.
Dishwashers aren’t as common to have major leaks, but a minor leak behind your dishwasher could go unnoticed for a very long time, which means that there could be standing water behind your counter that encourages wood rot and mold growth.
Make it a habit to shut off the water supply to appliances that aren’t using any water at the time. That way you minimize the risk of an accident.
