There are many dangerous things that nature can throw at us. Of course, none of us expect the worst, but the very nature of natural disasters means that they can happen at any time no matter where you live.

One good item to have prepared no matter what the disaster is a go-bag. You can find a lot of advice on what items to include in your bag on the internet, but it’s good to have food, water, and clothing at the least, but also some cash and important documents. The go-bag should be kept near the door so it can be grabbed easily when disaster strikes.

If you have time to prepare for an approaching disaster, you should shut off the main supply for your water, gas, and electricity. That way you minimize the risk that your home will be destroyed completely or severely damaged if a pipe or line is broken.
