
If you’re like a lot of people, you grew up with a certain science fiction television show that included voice commands, mobile devices, and automatic food preparation appliances. At the time, you probably thought that those were impossible devices from the future. Now, though, each of those things is not only possible but commonplace in many homes across the United States.
Smart home devices come in all shapes and sizes and can be controlled by voice commands, programmed schedules, or using your computer or mobile device. But if you can control all of these aspects of your home in this way, couldn’t a hacker do the same? With all internet-enabled devices, there is a certain measure of risk to your privacy and security involved. For that reason, it’s very important to only buy products from reputable manufacturers, and work hard to be aware of the privacy and security settings available to you with each device.
