When you hear the word formaldehyde, what do you think of? For most of us, the first thing that comes to mind is probably not our home, but in fact, there is a good chance that you have formaldehyde in your home, and it could be hurting your health.
Formaldehyde can cause you skin irritation, runny or itchy eyes, nausea and respiratory issues. According to some research, there could also be a tie between formaldehyde and certain types of cancer. So how does formaldehyde make it into your home? One way is through your furniture. The pressed wood that is used in some furniture contains formaldehyde, and this can seep out into the air over time. Another possible cause is a type of insulation called UFFI, but it has not been in use much after it was discovered that it releases formaldehyde over time.
While you usually won’t find dangerous levels of formaldehyde in most homes, it is something to be aware of and on the lookout for.
